Reading Time: 2 minutes

Summer can be a time to set aside familiar routines. Kids are out of school. Church programs are on hiatus. Many of us try to get away for a weekend of camping or a day at the lake.

Wherever you find yourself this summer, I hope you have a chance to relax. As you relax, I encourage you to look ahead — not to the upcoming tasks on your to-do list, but to a broader vista. What is God showing you about himself?

At M2/W2 we are looking ahead to more prisons reopening. While we’ve been able to meet one-on-one at several institutions, we hope our coffee nights will resume, so more people can interact with our volunteers casually. For someone in prison, attending a coffee night can be a great way to learn about M2/W2 and perhaps be the first step to meeting with a mentor.

It has been a long couple of years. Waiting for prisons to reopen and coffee nights to resume can be discouraging. Even so, I know that God reveals himself to us through these challenges. I remember the words of David in Psalm 16: “I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

When I look ahead, despite the uncertainty of our world, I know that God is with me. We can participate in his life-changing work and share hope with others. This brings me much confidence and joy!

I pray that God continues to show us his enduring strength and love this month, and that this inspires us to find new opportunities to serve and bless others.

Have a restful summer.
