Friendship plays an important part in our well-being. At a glance, it’s easy to see how friendship helps assuage loneliness and isolation. Yet a solid friendship can also improve our sense of self-worth.

  • For example, a good friend can help us see what’s unhealthy in our lives — whether that’s exercise and eating habits or substance use — and encourage us to change. When encouragement comes from someone we trust, we’re more likely to take action and make a change, even a difficult one.
  • A friend can bring an outside perspective to the struggles that bog us down. This perspective can help us develop a deeper sense of purpose as we find our place in the wider world.

For many people in prison or on parole in the community, loneliness is an ongoing struggle, one that’s often accompanied by a lack of purpose or connection to society.

At M2W2, our goal is to break through that isolation by connecting people with mentors, offering practical support, and creating work experience opportunities. It’s inspiring to see people make positive changes.

“M2W2 saved my life and so many other lives,” said a former program participant. “They found accommodation for me. A job opportunity. A great support circle. And friendship that has lasted for years.”

In Isaiah 41:10, God speaks through his prophet to reassure his people during a time of upheaval and struggle.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Our staff and volunteers want to be there for those who are isolated and struggling. We want to be a friend, a source of strength and encouragement so they can make positive changes. We want to be a resource to help them transition from prison to the community. To do this, we need your help.

One way you can support us is through prayer. Here is our July prayer calendar so you can pray alongside us wherever you are.

You can also help by giving and volunteering. Click here to donate or visit our homepage to learn more about volunteering with us.

Thank you so much. However you help, you are changing lives.
